Need help with a power auxiator hatch release

I picked one up from the j/y today and hooked the thing up to a battery and the relay would make a noise every time I engaged the switch to release the hatch.I had the latch locked down as if the hatch was closed and it just wouldnt do anything other than the relay buzzing.I did this in my house and didnt have the thing bolted into the camaro,I dont know if the stuff needs to be in the car to work right. If possible can I fix this myself,if the auxiator is shot. Thanks for the help, Michael

Yes I grounded it,there was a cut in the black wire going to the power auxiator. It works now, makes me happy to hit a button and have my hatch unlock for me,its better than using the keys.
