underhood light not working

I just bought this 91 Z28 and the little light under the hood doesnt come on. The bulb appears fine. ther is only one red wire leading to the light and if I trace that wire down where it enters the main wiring bundle on the right side of the engine, I see a red wire with a plug clip tha is sticking out of the bundle not attached to anything. I assume that is the sam wire. Why only one wire? Where is that light normally wire to?, etc

Thanks

I never had a light under any of my 3rd gens--lucky I guess
But-that should be the hot lead and the light itself should be grounded to the hood. Did you check that wire for juice? Should be hot.

Check the bulb (I am sure you have already). There is a fusible link on some models that is along the wire, check the fuse. Most models have a quick disconnect that is sometimes pushed into the wiring harness, make sure that is connected.

use a ohm meter and put the hot side on the wire going to the bulb...put the other on the negative side of the battery..if it shows power..move the ground from the battery to where the bulb fixture is grounded to the hood...if it still shows power..its the bulb..if not..its a bad ground at the bulb fixture...if neither show power..it could be a fuse in the fusebox..or an inline fuse..it could be a crimped wire...but if you traced it all the way back to the main wire harness..its doubtful. hope this helps
