VATS problem?

The car will now turnover but will not fire. All I did was to replace the old steering column with one from a doner car along with the VATS module. I am attempting to diagnose the problem? 1990 IROC-Z is the car.

Re: VATS problem?

Tpi f10 blue wire of the ecm should have 2.5v or a 30-50hz signal if the passkey is working correctly.

Re: VATS problem?

To at least get the starter to crank you can bypass the enable relay. The two outer wires get connected yellow and green large gauge wires. You can ohm the key and make sure the resistance is the same at the two white wires at the bottom of the column. The most common failure of the vats is the key reader.

Re: VATS problem?

I will check out the key with my multimeter the auto ranging function is PINA. It showed no DC voltage there. I suppose the best thing to do is just go and get a new key and try that out first.

Thanks, Andy

If your wanting to bypass it for good having it reprogrammed out or use a hz modulator.

Re: VATS problem?

I have decided to install a 7.5K resistor (key # 13) in the wire harness, and be done with all of this.
