Headlight module help

So the f2 connection inside the headlight module keeps popping. Any ideas. I've replaced it with 2 know good ones and all have popped the same connection. The original module had some sort of inline fuse and wires connect the f2 inside the module. I'm stumped. Thanks for the guidance in advance.

When your drawing an amount of current sufficient to actually melt circuit components , it's a pretty good guess that you have a "short circuit" somewhere in the headlight motors circuitry .

If the wiring is 100% mint never hacked , and you know how to use a meter to locate shorted circuit components , this schematic may be helpful in your diagnosis of where the short circuit exists ...

Thank you. Kinda confusing to look at lol. The headlight harness has been hacked. PO connected the passenger headlight to the driver headlight. Also a relay on the passenger side near the radiator support look like someone went a little bit crazy with butt connectors.

Ok so I check for shorts and grounds. Fixed the module and when I put the battery in all the motors do is spin and won't stop. Any ideas of what would cause that??? Please help lol

Do a search here for "headlight motor repair kit" and you will find that the motors continuing to spin is a symptom of the plastic bushings having gone bad in the motors (VERY common problem) . The TGO site sponsor "Top Down Solutions" sells the repair kit that comes with installation instructions and it's not a terribly difficult repair if your at all mechanically inclined .

Of course the above only applies to a factory wired , not butchered or otherwise hacked into harness . Depending on the level of wiring bukake committed on your car , who knows what kinds of miswiring has taken place , and so my first order of business would be to buy and install a mint headlight harness of the correct year and then go from there .

Lmao bukake. I took the harness out today and it appears the only hacked wiring was to connect the passenger side headlight motor to the driver side motor. I'll be ordering the headlight kit in just a minute lol. Took the motors apart and dust and chunks fell out. Also in your opinion would the motors constantly turning cause the damage to the module circuit board in the photos above?

Yep , the dust is a sure sign the original bushings have bitten the dust , and that right there is why the motors won't stop . The module looks for the rise in current as the motor reaches either end of travel (open or closed) and when the rise in current happens that's when the module stops the power to the motors . With them free running cause of no bushings there won't be the end of travel current rise for the module to detect .

Now , as to your last question , it's possible that if the motors ran long enough it could overheat the module , did that happen the instant the module was plugged in , or did the motors run a real long time after the module was plugged in ?

Re: Headlight module help

The one I got did it when plugged in. I've almost taken the entire harness out to check for any bare spot on the wires and nothing was found. I did how ever find that the passenger side headlight was wired to the driver side. I thought that this may account for my over loaded popped circuit. The only other thing I found were the fuseable links looked to have duck tape on the connections. Idk if this was from gm or some shody PO fix job.

Re: Headlight module help

How ever the damage was done while both motors we're hooked together. Also I corrected the wiring and watched the repaired module start to heat up and smoke a little.

Re: Headlight module help

Lots of meatheads try to wire the left and right headlights together, thinking if one side works they'll both work that way, but of course it fouls up the circuit and just toasts the module. Best bet is to get a harness that isn't all hacked up, and a module that hasn't been fried, then hope for the best.
