Next I also found this laying loose connected to nothing. I didn’t see anywhere to connect it so more just interested to know what it’s for and if it IS supposed to be connected, where?
Drew, using your pic above I can see where the relay mounts now. Clip is gone. Do you have a pic or part number reference for the correct clip? Also what I couldn’t tell from your pic is how the relay is installed in that spot.
I attached another pic from my car for reference. My relay has a long thin metal mounting bracket on the backside with a hole in the center for a screw (and it looks like a screw was used there before) and then two slots on either side of the hole. I can’t tell from your pic if that relay even has this bracket or if so if it’s up against the trunk pan o away from it. It almost looks like the bracket is there but is on the other side of the relay from the trunk pan which since my relay has nothing on the side opposite the side with the bracket I’m not sure what would attach to the clip.
This is a FerrrD relay, picture stolen from a FerrrD forum, but it's basically this kind of setup.
I'd look in the big book for a part number, but usually stuff like that isn't in there, and when I do find a part number it's obsolete. Best bet is to flip through the Auveco catalog, or dig around on the Delphi (errr Aptiv, or whatever they want to call themselves this week) online catalog for a modern substitute. All else fails you could use the bracket you have with a push pin.
Pretty sure the bracket on your relay is a leftover from whatever car the relay was salvaged from. If you do use it, you might want to put a foam washer between the clip and the body so it doesn't rattle.

Thanks! Disappointing because this was a very original one owner car but the previous owner did not do any work on the car themselves so who knows what repairs were done on the motorized deck lid. I’ll search for a clip that will be a good substitute. I didn’t consider that bracket wasn’t original but makes sense.
If anyone has a pic of an original in their 89 GTA would sure appreciate it.
By the way found where the other connector for the 3rd brake light went so thanks again for that! Light doesn’t work so I have to get the voltage meter out and start troubleshooting.
Was out in the driveway procrastinating, so here's a better view of my 91 Firebird.
The light should come on with the hatch open. It grounds through the pulldown assembly. Make sure all the grounds are there and tight. You should have a ground screw on the pulldown mount, and a jumper ground wire from that screw up to the release solenoid.
