Battery charging issues and leaking

Hello I have an ‘89 Camaro 305 throttle body. My battery has been causing a lot of problems. It doesn’t wanna charge properly. I’ve used a charger to charge it and it charges up but then water starts leaking. I’m being told that this is happening because of a bad ground in my car. Now I can understand the happening when i S in the car. But leaking when it’s connected to a wall charger separate from the car? Tell me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure that means that the battery is bad. And yet people at autozone keep blaming it on the car. I’m sure the car has a bad ground some where maybe? But it didn’t before I changed my alternator out 2 weeks ago. Any help would be great.

Re: Battery charging issues and leaking

probably has a shorted cell-when that happens, the good cells overcharge and froth up-if battery caps ere removable, look for a cell that does not bubble under charge(taking precautions in presence of hydrogen gas and acid-no sparks ) one common cause of shorted cell is battery frozen when at a low charge.
