Aftermarket Electric Speedo - Need some advice

I had a fire and some rodent chew damage to my wiring harness... Actually the rodent chew came first.
But I've decided to scrap the EFI convert to carb, and simplify the harness as much as I possibly can.
Everything is going smoothly with the project. It's been running well for a while now, but when I eliminated the ECM, I lost the speedo.
I finally decided that I'd build a custom instrument panel and I got an electric speedo but The thing I'm unsure about is how to wire in the existing VSS to the new electric speedo.
I should have asked before I jumped and bought the new speedo, but when I bought it I was told it's easy... It ain't easy
Can an aftermarket speedo be wired directly to the VSS? Bypassing the ECM and buffer?

Thanks for the help.

Re: Aftermarket Electric Speedo - Need some advice

I've been searching, and there are a number of threads that touch on this topic, but not exactly.
Most of what I read is from guys who are keeping their ECM . But since I'm carb'd there will be no ECM.
It seems like I can wire either the purple or yellow direct to the signal input. But then the question is; What do I do with the other wire?

I'm hesitant to just roll the dice and start experimenting by connecting wires to different things, because that can lead to bigger problems.

It's manufactured by Faria
Distributed by Cal Custom
Sold by Summit

I've been doing some follow up searches and it seems like the purple and yellow leads coming from the VSS can be tested safely and possibly be switched around and the speedo will still work

So I don't have an answer to your question directly, but assuming you puchased from Summit, and recently....is it possible to return? I'm possibly looking to go full aftermarket gauges, and am planning to use a GPS speedometer. Obviously it tracks the cars position and calculates accordingly. Anyhow....they're accurate and are simple to install. No cable or vss to deal with. Just a thought.
