VATS Problem

Hi,
I'm having problems with the VATS system on my '89 GTA.
I have borrowed a module from a fried of mine and matched a resistor to his key and no problems, it starts. I do the same with mine and the security light stays on and the engine will not turn over or engage.
The car had been in storage for over a year and prior to breaking it out there was a very intermittant problem with starting, but 95% of the time, no worries.
Is it common for the VATS module to give trouble, and if this seems like the cause of my troubles where can I get it serviced and how much would it cost. Also I reakon I could fix it my self with a few pointer as my location is down the near bottom of the world.
Many thanks, Paul.

Tell that good friend of yours that his just got lost. LOL In your test, did you use a key or just a resistor? If you used a resistor, then maybe it wasn't the same resistance.

Sounds like you need a new module. A new module will set itself to the resistance value it sees the first time it is powered up.
