HID conversion
Hi everyone,
Sorry for the post I've been googling for the past 2 hours and everyone had an adapter. But to what this post is about. I purchased the HID conversion for my headlights from Hawks for my 86 iroc. Since the factory plug is 3 wire and the new HID is 2 wire they came like this.
[ _ I] (sorry for the crappy illustration)
But when plugged in like this they dont work at all. I flipped the plug at the ballast and they will flicker and turn off.
I flipped the plug back at the ballast where it had the locking tab and swapped the pin out too
[I I]
this and they work. However they wont stay on with the high beams now.
is wiring it like this OK for the wiring, meaning it wont burn anything up and is it normal for the low beams not to work when the high beams are on with the conversion?
Thanks

Re: HID conversion
I'm not an expert here, but I'll give it a shot.
My car had HID or LED headlights when I got it, I'm not sure which but they were projector lights and they were aftermarket. One word of advice, don't use aftermarket lights that don't fit into the headlight housing (whoever put them in my car ruined the housing to fit them in and it made it a whole issue to get stock-equivalent headlights in it.
Anyways, are do your new lights have the 2 or 3 prong connectors like the stock lights? If your conversion kit is like I'm thinking it is, it shouldn't require any wiring altering, you should be able to plug is into the stock connector and hide the box attached to the kit somewhere.
Also, regardless of what lights you have in, if it's wired right then all 4 headlights should be on when you turn the brights on, and only the 2 low beams should be on when the brights are off.
One more note: make sure you're hooking each headlight up to the right socket so you're not plugging the high beams into the low beams and vice versa.
