Fuse constantly blowing

Looking to see before I waste countless hours chasing a blown circuit..... I have my horn, power locks, courtesy dome light, rear hatch switch release in the counsel, power locks and power mirrors - fuse blows after a day max consistently.
Must have a wire grounding out and blowing fuse. Just wanted to check with the experts to see if this is a common problem and if so what location to look at wiring wise before I spend a weekend chasing it...
Any help would be super appreciated......

Buy (Harbor Freight) or make a device that has a fuse like insert that allows you to connect an old light bulb 12v, in series to test for the short. Unplug devises on the circuit, till the light goes out. Then you know what hAS THE short.

Re: Fuse constantly blowing

Can't tell which car you have. Firebirds have the lighter stuff more easily falls in, Camaros not so much. If that is not the problem, what happened to my Camaro an any third gen is that the lighter socket grounds out from some aging process and blows that Acc fuse. Try disconnecting the plug on the back of the socket and putting in a new fuse. If that fixes it you can either leave it unplugged or replace .Careful tho, the orange wire on the connector is HOT at all times and could short out if it contacts anything in the dash. Happy hunting! Oh, and I have good Camaro sockets and lighters if you need one and can't find anywhere

Re: Fuse constantly blowing

The lighter in my '92 has been residing in the center console for well over 15 years because of this. Although I can use the socket for a DC to AC invertor box. But put the lighter in and jiggle it, pop goes the weasel. I saw it spark when it was dark out one night, that is how I discovered this.

Funny thing is that the lighter has only been used once, to kill a tick I found while on the road.

Re: Fuse constantly blowing

Thanks gentlemen. I will be checking the lighter first thing !! Car is in the body shop getting front spoiler and fender paint touch ups. Once back I will pull the lighter and replace the fuse and see if it blows or not. Fuse usually lasts only one trip. The vibration in the car running stands to reason. I hope it is as simple as that!!
