Hi guys n girls, i got an 83 daytona 500 with a 305 crossfire injection, i have done a restoration on everything apart from the wiring which looked ok visually so i covered it in new tape and reinstalled in car, come to start it and got only brake warning light on Instrusment Panel, car was in pieces when i brought it so dont know if it is a problem,

Has anyone got an 83 like mine to compare info?, what lights are supposed to luminate on IP when key is in run position?,

then i assume all lights except brake warning go out when you start and release key, tested bulbs in IP and changed for new, still only getting brake warning, was told check engine light should be on, but he has different firebird as i think his is carb with different lights, live in uk and have never been around usa cars before so am unsure if there electronics are different to uk specs, if i put power to pin 20 on the ecm and the check engine light luminates it meens my ecm is broken???, also fuel pump is sucking, not sure whether these two things are rated

check for missing ground connection(s) to instrument cluster wiring.Check engine light should be on with ignition until engine is started.Do the electric gauges in the cluster respond normally when ignition switched on ?

 

OK mate thanks, I will try those, I've been thinking about removing the dash and probing all the sections on the IP, at the moment the only thing that lights up when the key is put into the run position is the brake warning light,

 

Driving lights bulb on dash lights when switched on, so do turn signals, oil temperature OK, don't think it is ground to IP, ecu Bad?, bad tracks on IP circuit board? I will have to chase each wire and tracks to their sources and do some continuity tests
