92 RS A/C plug melted

I'm starting to investigate the myriad of electrical problems my newly acquired '92 RS 305 5 speed, and I came across this melted plug near the blower motor. I know it needs a new blower motor and resistor, because it only works on high speed and screeches like a scalded pig, but I'd like to see if I can remedy whatever caused this melting. It looks like it burned the blower motor housing as well

Any ideas as to what it could be?

The blower connector is a cheap design, that's why it overheated.

Here's what I do: Solder wires to the blower motor and install a serious connector.

Then, of course I install a mating connector onto the harness.

RE: Screeching; It's either the motor, or the squirrel cage rubbing the inner housing.

You can remove the blower to determine.
