1985 iroc z ecm wiring and fuel pump
I just removed the ecm wiring in my car and I discovered some differences from the diagrams and info I was able to find here for an 85. First of all the fuel pump power wire in my car was brown and black at the black and white connectors next to the ecm on pin D no wire in pin L on either connector. Also fuse box side of pin D wire is white to the bulkhead connector on the drivers side wall under the dash going to the brown fuel pump power wire to the rear seat. This is where you can wire a new relay for pump power to the white wire or the brown. It's easier to cut the white one and leave the connector as it is with the brown wire coming out of it. My ecm wiring also had the choke wire in it, no big deal. Also a two wire plug from the drivers side engine harness to the ecm harness right behind the left cylinder head. I assume it was something for the TPI or AC. I kept the connector wired to the engine harness side. It was green and orange or brown with a flat melted connector. One of the wires was already cut so I cut the green one as well. It wasn't doing anything. My wiring was hacked up from a previous owner engine change. After all this I got the rest of the ecm wiring and all out which left all the wires going to the drivers side. I then cut those back just to before the heater and ac wiring which are in the same loom and capped them all off since none are needed. The wiring left over is unusable as the previous owner or owners hacked it up. You would need to rewire over half of it to make it usable again. So there was only three things to look at when removing the ecm. Choke and fuel pump wires and the flat black connector which I have to figure out what it went to. Anyone know? I still have all the other AC wires intact.

Re: 1985 iroc z ecm wiring and fuel pump
That was hard to read thru,...... After thinking about it for a minute I've got to assume that the car was originally a TPI but then converted to a Carb ??
If it was converted to carb than the entire ECM and ECM harness can simply be removed. You will need to add a wire for the CHOKE ( since the TPI didn't have a factory CHOKE wire ) and you probably lost the connection for your oil pressure gauge. If the car was an Automatic than you *should* install some type of aftermarket TCC lock-up,... if it's a stick than it's not needed.
Some folks use the original high pressure TPI fuel pump and regulate it down for a Carb. If this is the case than just start from scratch and build a relay and wire the pump to it. (easy enough) The "proper" way to deal with the fuel system change IMO is to remove the in-tank pump and install a block mounted pump. It is not recommended to leave the original in-tank pump installed but not functional; then use a second pump to pull fuel thru the in-tank unit............
No ideas here: posting a pic might help.

Re: 1985 iroc z ecm wiring and fuel pump
Thanks for your reply but all that you mentioned has already been done by someone else. I was just trying to relay my experience with just the ecm wiring for an 85. I just got finished straightening out all the janky stuff they did. Guess I should have mentioned that. Anyway I will post a pic of the connector later today.
