1992 Firebird 3.1 L V6. distributor Timing adjustment
I was having hard starting issues which it would take 6-10 cranks before the car would turn over and start
I replaced all plugs, wires, and fuel filter. Now it takes 1 or 2 cranks to get it started. i found a vacuum leak at the egr valve that i haven't been able to fix yet since i just found it after the parts store closed. Only one of the 3 screw were on the egr valve the one that is there is stripped so i dont know what size it is. Can someone help with the correct size?
Ok so with the timing issue. This is a bit weird for me i dont know if it would be for you all but i put my timing light on and if im not going crazy the timing is so far off i would guess it to be -12 or so. would i even be able to crank it at that point?
Am i reading the timing wrong?
Also my rpm is idling at around 3,000 rpm hoping it goes down when when i screw down the egr valve tomorrow.
I have looked around the distributor and cannot find the bolt that allows me to turn the dizzy for adjusting timing
Can someone help me with this host of problems i have

If the timing mark is down on the drivers side past the tab, that would be ATDC. It will crank and start, but the engine won't have any power. The correct timing is 10° BTDC. For the timing light pickup I like to use #4 cylinder, center drivers side. That way no need to drape the cable over the engine to get to #1.
For the distributor bolt, it is toward the rear of the engine skewed to the passenger side. It is a 15 mm head. If your car is an automatic the TV cable likes to pass right over the bolt head.

IIRC, there are other marks/slots on the stock damper. You may be looking at the wrong one. The other possibility is that the damper is failing and the outer ring has moved. This puts the timing mark in the wrong spot, not at TDC.
Here is a picture of the tab with the timing mark at 11° BTDC:

A.I.R. hose, to inject air into the exhaust. Not sure but it may connect to the other pipe seen at about 4 o'clock from that connection. It appears that the A.I.R. pump is still there, but don't see a belt driving it.
