Rear hatch conversion

Does anyone have experience converting the rear electronic hatch pull down assembly to a standard key operated release? The hatch assemblies are getting harder and harder to find and mine is giving me fits. I have a late model 91 RS.

Re: Rear hatch conversion

One of the best things I ever did to my Formula was chuck that unreliable trunk pull down in the garbage.

It is relatively easy, I removed the entire latch assembly, and the metal bracket it mounts to (I believe it was 4 spot welds) from an early Thirdgen (84 Z28 I think), Then went back to the garage and removed the pull down assembly from the Formula, and the metal bracket it mounts to (again drilling out the 4 spot welds), then we (my buddy and I) closed the hatch, and when it sat the way I liked he riveted the manual latch in place at two points, then another friend of ours welded it all nicely in place.

I will be doing this to any 86+ Thirdgen I happen to own going forward.
