trunk release problem

Ok last night my trunk worked fine. 90 iroc BTW. Motor pulled lid down correctly. This morning I tried the trunk didnt work. No click nothing. Checked fuses with meter. Took the switch out and its 2 wires. 1 should be power in 1 should be power out. When I hook power up to one of the wires it turns my starter. Any idea why? Doesn't seem right. Trunk still doesn't open! Help please

Re: trunk release problem

The console hatch release switch gets ground via the shifter P/N safety switch that goes on to the starter solenoid. Hence the starter turning over the engine. IIRC, GM changed the hatch pull down in mid '91 or something. All I have is '92 information.

You may find that the hatch motor end switches aren't being properly activated. Had this issue a few months back. Console switch didn't work, so used the key to pop the hatch. Then upon closing the hatch, no latching and no pull down.

Needed to manually activate the pull down switch to get the electronics sorted out. And the hatch now works again.
