I have an 83 Camaro with a fuel gauge issue. Its pegged past full. Took the dash apart and its not stuck or hanging up. I disconnected the pigtail connector going to the tank, touched the wires together from the gauge end and it did not drop to empty. I then used the volt meter set for ohms and touched the ends of the sending unit gets nothing on the meter. It displays 1 possibly meaning a fault in the sending unit. The fact the gauge didn't drop down to empty while testing the gauge end is baffling. Bad gauge and sending unit or am I missing something?? Also I cant find a new sending unit for this year either. Carbed motor, not a crossfire model. Any advise is greatly appreciated,

I have a similar issue. Replacing the tank and pump on a 1983 Crossfire and need to replace the sending unit also. Looking at buying the hanger/ sending unit from an 85 to 92. They are very similar. Threaded connection on the fuel feed line that I think we can ignore and just slip the hose on the line and clamp. But need to know if the sending unit is the same resistance as the 83. Looking at buying this one..

Good question because I cannot find a sending unit for an 83. Discontinued.

 

Not sure what your hanger looks like for the carb motor. How many lines, etc. But I have been digging around and found that the gauge sending unit part looks to be the same for many years. 0 ohms at empty and 90 ohms at full. If the hanger is too different for you to use the whole thing you should be able to take the gauge sending part off any year new hanger and adapt it to yours. It is mounted about half way up the fuel return line...again not sure what yours looks like.

Found this image on here. Shows the sending unit for an 87 and my service manual shows the same values for the 83.

I am having same issue I need a fuel sending unit for a 1982 camaro z28 CFI cant find anywhere!! just wondering if anyone was able to make the one for other years work?? any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
