My 1986 Trans AM's driver side pop up head light has started to misbehave so I removed the motor to look into the matter. I have heard about the rebuild kits online, such as replacing the internal bushings and plastic gear with a brass or aluminum unit. I do not see many kits advertised for the pre 87 cars. After pulling the motor out I noticed it looks like the motor is "sealed" and not serviceable. See attached pictures. I firmly believe the internal gear is stripped on the inside based on how the headlight is erratically functioning. ( it goes up halfway, or the motor actuator will continuously run, etc). Can someone tell me if I must replace this motor as a whole or am I supposed to drill out the rivets holding the motor together to gain access to the gear and bushings?
