This is from an '88 TPI 305, it seems to be a copper cap that sits on top of the pickup and reluctor.
My one is pretty green from age, and has very thing cracks around the outer edge. Does this cap do anything important or is it just there to hold the pickup in place? I can't seem to find a name for what this might be on Rock Auto, and I suspect there might be no replacement part.
I'm replacing the ignition module and pickup coil, the rest of the Distributor seems to be in ok condition. Cap and rotor were replaced last year.
Is there a name for this part, and is it replaceable? I have seen mention of an MSD kit for replacing stock distributor internals, but can't seem to find any info on it.
The pics below are large, so hopefully they'll get resized in the post.
Green cap on Dizzy. Yes that pickup coil plug has turned orange with age. Green cap off dizzy.
