advice please Problems on new 87 TA

I just bought a 1987 TA V8 AT4 Previous owner did work on it....sigh.

Engine has been swapped not sure if tranny was as well. It now starts and runs strong, But will stall when cold idling.
Don't hear any vacuum leaks.
cleaned fuel filter on carb. No change
No check engine light.

Speedometer works but not the odometer. Not a digital dash.
Will this be a cable issue or is it an electronic problem?

I'm not going to comment on the first part of your post, cause I know of no way to "clean" a fuel filter. They get dirty, they get replaced. Period.

Now as to your odometer, there is no cable involved, the speedometer/odometer are electronically run from the same signal from the VSS. Since your speedometer works and your odometer doesn't , the problem is with your odometer itself. Specifically, it's a well known problem of our cars that the plastic gears that roll the numbers disintegrate leaving the odometer inoperative. There are gear kits sold that can be used to repair the problem.....

Indeed, the Fuel Filters of the past...
Were intended disassembled, cleaned-out, and have a new Filter-Element installed.

Some Carburetors still use replaceable Filter Elements...
And most of the really large. high-flow Fuel-System Filters have replacement Fuel Filter Screens or Elements:

Exactly, "And have a new Filter-Element installed"

From the OP's description, I didn't see the "New Filter-Element" mentioned, just something about "cleaned fuel filter on carb" , which is why I wasn't going there.........

Check the choke and fast-idle linkage for proper operation and adjust as necessary.

Re: advice please Problems on new 87 TA

the gears on the odometer are notorious for breaking / seizing up. Since your speedometer is working im guessing your gewars are bad....

you could send the cluster out to a shop or order the gear yourself.........IMO its $$$ but worth to send to a shop..
