1988 Delco UX1 Radio 1606635 works but not with cassette
Hi, new here hope this is the spot for this.
So I have a Delco radio I'm pretty sure it's the 1606635 one but who knows. It has the equalizer, RPO UX1 for 1988 Camaro.
I read the forums because I was not getting sound out of the right side speakers. I saw it was the 3x 1uF green caps. I replaced em and the right side speakers worked! There is some noise but whatever. That's not the issue I'm having.
With using the am/FM radio, everything works. Here comes the other issue. When using the cassette, I don't get sound out of the left speakers. So I fixed one issue with the FM/am radio not outputting to the right speakers but now using the cassette the left speakers don't work? Is there an amp for the cassette? Is it an electric issue or mechanical? I really don't want to remove the new thermal paste I put on. I used high quality brand and it comes in a tiny tube.

The problem will be due to the cassette mechanism itself and you can remove the cassette mech without dismantling the rest of the radio. The cassette sends it's own Left and Right output to the 2 AMPs in the head unit and the Left channel is ( for what-ever reason ) not sending the LEFT channel output from the cassette mech to the AMPs as it should. I don't know 'off the top' what wires the Left and Right from the cassette to the AMP are, but they will be part of the larger plug of the 2 plugs that connect the cassette mechanism to the radio itself. ( the smaller plug control the EJECT and SEARCH buttons on the faceplate. )

Hello again. It seems this was an intermittent issue. It worked when it felt like it but now, it completely doesn't work. I did a few things to try and make it work:
- I replaced the left roller since it was broken. (All I had was a slightly smaller roller to replace it.)
- The cassette head was replaced with another gm head. (Dunno what radio it came from.)
- Aligned the head better with the small nuts holding the head reader on.
