'92 Camaro Factory Radio speakers intermittent and garbled sound

I have a '92 Camaro with factory radio installed. It has this issue where sometimes when I turn the key on, the speakers don't work, if it give the center console a whack right on the side of where the radio goes, the speakers turn on and worked fine. I also had another issue where the radio with randomly drifts off of the frequency I was listening to, the display still shows that station I had it set for, I will hear other stations though, also giving it a whack fixes that too. So I decided to take out the radio and reflow the solder joints on the top board ( the one where the antenna connects) because I assumed that controlled the tuning and thought maybe there was a cold solder joint. Anyways when I finished and put it back together, now that audio is garbled and I still have the issue with the speakers not turning on, not sure if I fixed the tuning problem because it happens randomly. I will link a recording of the sound.

IMO: Probably time for another radio........... It might be repairable; but fixing the station problem will require work to the upper boards and the Speaker problem is a repair on the AMP board. By the time you've paid for those repairs and parts ( + anything else that might need repair while it's open ) you're approaching the repair-vs-replacement 'threshold'.

I've got a couple used replacements in that style and can install an AUX jack by request. Feel free to send me a PM for details if you're interested.

Do you know what needs to be replaced in order to repair it? How much do you want for a radio without aux?

The garbled audio fixed itself, my best guess is that it was because I cleaned it he excess flux off the board after reflowing it, maybe some of the alcohol I used to clean it remained, I waited and hour to try to let it dry before I put it in, but now today it works fine maybe it was the heat that helped the alcohol evaporate, if you know what part of the amp board is causing the speakers to not turn on ( maybe an enable trace or cold solder joint on the enable line on the dm165?) Please let me know.

You got it Mike !

Jadelutis: The Green Capacitors under the heat sink are for the FRONT & REAR / RIGHT speaker caps. Your problem could be the Caps, could be the CHIP, could be the board, could be Gain Coupling caps,....... no way for me to know exactly.

Okay, thank you. I might just live with it how it is right now because I can deal with hitting it when the speakers shut off. I have another radio that I just replaced the DM165's in I got them from corvette radios for $27 I just wanted this one because the cassette deck has the search function for skipping tracks. I just realized that you are from Rhode Island, I'm just next door in Massachusetts.
