Instrument cluster

Hi there!

Can someone guide me in the right direction - i have a 1982 Camaro and suddenly the backlight in the instrument cluster stopped working. I have check all the fuses, all good. The light for BRAKE, TURN SIGNAL, HIGH BEAM and so on WORKS! All the dome lights works, but NOT the dimmable backlights for the instrument cluster. I have just installed the dash and fitted a new headlight switch - can the circuitboard have been broken when i put the cluster back in? Before i did put it back inn, alle the backlights worked.. Any ideas? Is there a ground wire for the lights somewhere? Someone talks about a remote dimmer, but someone also says that it is jus the Pontiac who has it. Is it likely to be the two main plugs for the cluster / circuit board? Is it the new headlight switch who does not supply power on the "dimmable" output?

Anyone?

Re: Instrument cluster

Yes of course.

Is there a ground wire for the lights somewhere?
Yes of course. Connects to the circuit board just like the "hot" side of the bulbs.

This is true, at least in Camaro models other than Berlinetta w digital dash.

Is it likely to be the two main plugs for the cluster / circuit board?
Not as likely as the PCB itself, but not impossible either.

Is it the new headlight switch who does not supply power on the "dimmable" output?
I don't know; I haven't taken my voltmeter to the grey wires (dash lights) in your car. When you did that, what voltage did you find on them? This circuit is available in a few other places besides the dash lights themselves; radio, shifter quadrant, etc.

Be aware also, the dash lights get their power from the parking/tail light circuit. Might want to verify that those are working before tearing into the dash lights.
