Braided Transmission lines shorting

I just got done redoing an oil pan gasket and changing over my pulleys, now when I go to start my car it clicks and smoke rises from my braided steel transmission lines, I checked with a multimeter and they are grounded to the body and I have no wires to my transmission, I also have no ecm wires only wires that control the lights, and the gauges. I can not figure out why the lines are shorting out. Any help is appreciated thanks.

It sounds like those trans lines are acting as the chassis ground for the engine/starter. Check to make certain you have a proper ground strap from the block or head(s) to the frame.

Grounding is very often overlooked, however is actually the "More" Important side of this Circuit.

Re: Braided Transmission lines shorting

That happens alot. Had a friend who burnt up the trans lines in a Nova. Same thing no ground connection. Don't be surprised if the lines start leaking. They are rubber hose covered with the steel braid. Even Russel hose is that way.
