Gauge cluster issue when light switch is activated.
One night while I was driving my 1982 z28 home, I ran across train tracks a bit too fast, the bumps causes something to go lose causing issues with my gauge cluster. The issue goes as follows.
When I turn on my headlights, or the tac lights, my battery volt meter flips all the way down, my oil pressure gauge goes all the way up (or down when the car is off), and my right (interior only) turn indicator light goes on, and sometimes the rpm gauge goes limp. I have no idea where to begin for this. I've checked grounds and fuses so far .
any help would be appreciated.
Re: Gauge cluster issue when light switch is activated.
Check your grounds in the dash, had the same issue with a 79 Blazer, it was a loose ground, wish I could tell you more where to look but it's been over 30 years lol, but it's a ground
Also check all your connections to your instrument panel, a loose plug can also cause this. Bottom line an electrical connection came loose somewhere when you hit those tracks just a matter of finding it.
Really wish I could remember where exactly I found my problem, it was so simple, but hard to find.
Glad you figured it out, I knew it was something with the cluster, my issue with the Blazer was a loose plug on the cluster but did the same thing, it really wreaks havoc on the whole cluster.
