87 Firebird --Tachometer stopped working when distributor was replaced

Replaced previous distributor w MSD Ready to Run (8360). Engine is nearly new 383 Stroker but gauges in the car are original. Tachometer worked fine before the new distributor. Mechanic that installed the new equipment said that I should be able to find an interface part that would help those two devices communicate/work together. All connections are secure and mechanic did check with an external tach to make sure that it would work. I'm hoping that someone on this forum could steer me in the right direction... Thanks in advance!

I haven't had a chance to mess with it yet. I wrote to MSD and one of their online techs sent me this to try---
If you're using the tach output wire on the distributor the tach may not work. When using the 8360 an no ignition box you can connect the tach to the neg side of the coil.
