Car Won’t Crank

Have a 1992 TransAm 305, 5.0L. Car died and won’t even try to crank. No lights on dash when key is on position.

Hooked it up to jump it and nothing would happen. Let it sit, connected to the other vehicle for about 15 mins. Tried again and this time I had lights and it would click but would not crank. Let it sit for about 10 more mins, same thing.

Took the battery out and had AutoZone test it. Battery is good. Alternator?

We have a sound system in the car with 2, 600w subs and a 1500w amp. If I take out the alternator, have it tested and it needs to be replaced, would a standard 105amp alternator be sufficient?
If the alternator tests good, what else could it be? I tested all fuses and they test good too.

No. How would I check or test them?

Just assuming battery cables are tight clean of corrosion.
you can use a safety pin to Pearce the wire sheath to check voltage on fusible links if it’s not obvious there damaged.

Re: Car Won’t Crank

Could definitely be alternator. I was thinking fusible link until you said you got a click after charging for awhile.

I can't comment on proper alternator sizing with your audio stuff installed.

Edit: Wait a minute, I just saw the battery tested good. Was the charge low when they tested it?

Are your battery cables 31 years old?

Re: Car Won’t Crank

So got it running. Turns out…bad terminal connectors.

I didn’t think about those bc they were obviously aftermarket so I assumed they weren’t very old.

I guess we know what happens when you assume. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks everyone!
