ECM interchangable

Hi

I have a 1986 Camaro IROC-Z with a 305 TPI and TH400. It came with 2 ECMs. A short one marked 1986 TPI Manual in it and a longer one marked 1986 TPI Automatic. The longer one really won't fit in the space. Can I change the chip over, and will it work?

It seems to run ok how it is now, well after I got the injectors cleaned it does.

Re: ECM interchangable

Never heard of two different length ECMs for that year/model. A picture of each along with the service number of each would be helpful.

Re: ECM interchangable

The first 2 are the longer ones, and the others are the shorter ones. Strange, the smaller box seems to be from a VN Holden Commodore, which I would think would not work, but it does.

Re: ECM interchangable

I researched more and found the VN 5.0l was an Australian version of the 305. Might just keep it how it is as it is now running pretty well, and it may have some Australian-specific emissions control in it.

Re: ECM interchangable

The 808 will work in place of a 165 just different baud rate.
