Amp is killing battery

So this has just happened recently been running this amp for a few years now....So the other day I went to the gas station and went to start my car and the battery was dead so I got jumped off got it home. Next morning same thing dead battery so I went and got everything checked it was all good said I had a parasitic draw. So I got to looking at amp with car off when on it lights up blue...So no lights on the amp so I disconnected the remote wire and ran a multimeter to amp red and black terminals and I was getting 12 volts is my amp shot? Any way to test this further? I do have a stock head unit so my remote wire was wired to a cigarette lighter but that cuts off when car is off.

If you suspect your amplifier is the problem, the most logical first troubleshooting step is to simply disconnect its power cable(s) and then, with a charged-up battery, see if the car will then start the next day. If it does, your amp has a problem. If the car still won't start even after the amp has been taken out of the picture, you have a problem elsewhere.

BTW, parasitic draw is measured in current flow, not voltage. This vid will explain how to track down the offending circuit in your car's electrical system.

Re: Amp is killing battery

Using a multimeter was how I discovered that my radio was causing a parasitic draw on my battery & killing it. I had an electronics repairman resolve the situation. No more draw.

The large positive and ground should have constant power. The remote is the only one that will be switched. If you can measure voltage at the remote terminal with the blue wire disconnected then the amp is bad.

The cigarette lighter is factory wired to ‘hot at all times’ circuit; meaning even when the key is removed from the column.

it’s not a switched power source.

Maybe run the remote wire to the YELLOW switched power to the factory radio harness,…. That wire leads to the radio fuse; you could also ‘tap’ into the radio circuit at the available port in your fuse box.
