I'm currently upgrading my alternator to a AD244 from a 2000 Tahoe, I have a question about the exciter wire..
Is it supposed to be hot while the car is running? or is it supposed to be hot only on ignition then cold when the car is running?
I'm on my second AD244 currently and I'm not sure if its due to user error or I was given a fluke at the auto parts.
I have the 12V wire from the junction box on the signal wire, and I'm using the tan/white wire to excite the alternator, which is 12v only on ignition and while the car is running. (My all brown wire doesn't get any 12v signal, I believe its due to the Choke/Alternator light circuit from the dash being broken)
I have a 470ohm resistor inline with the exciter wire, should I need a 470K-ohm or 470ohm resistor?
The alternator was charging fine for over 30 minutes idling, and I went around the block, all good. The day after it stopped charging.
The original alternator was charging fine with the stock 3 pin connector (ad244 uses a 4 pin)
Thank you, Michael
