Turn Signal issues 1988 Firebird

I've tried to scour through this forum but I can't seem to find my exact issue. Hoping someone can help. I have a 88 firebird and when I turn the parking/headlights on, my passenger side turn signal bulb will not turn on. The indicator on the dash stays permanently lit. When I turn on hazards it works. But it will not flash when activating the turn signal. The front and rear will light up and stay lit but not flash. I've tried different bulbs. I don't know where to start.

Did you check the relays or flasher module or whatever they are called?

Here is link to a 1988 Firebird shop manual. There should be a section in there that explains how the lighting works and how to troubleshoot.

Re: Turn Signal issues 1988 Firebird

You have a bulb, socket, or wiring, that is shorting the parking light and turn signal light wires together.

Start at the sockets. You might have a bulb in wrong such that the bulb contacts are touching both socket contacts. VERY common: esp if the bulb is in backwards, i.e. the 2 little bayonet contacts, are on the wrong sides. i.e. the bulb is 180° out. Could also be the sockets themselves. They break sometimes such that the 2 contacts can touch, or excessive stress can bend the contacts to where they can touch. Easy to see.

In any case, it's just LIGHTS. About the simplest part of the simplest kind of wiring there is, a CAR. There's like A BILLION of them in the world. All have wiring. People from all over the world can master this. YOU CAN too. It's JUST NOT THAT HARD. It's just a CAR.

Amazing sometimes what you can see if you just LOOK. I'd start there.
