Turn Signal Indicator
Turn Signal Indicator
Recently acquired a 1984 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Driving it on the way home, the driver's side turn signal would stay lit when used, and the turn signal indicator would also stay lit. The passenger side indicator would blink normally for both.
I knew someone who gave me an out of the box flasher unit. I changed it out from the old one. Now both exterior turn signals flash like they are suppose to; however, both of my dash turn signal indicators will not light up and blink. I do hear the click, but no lights.
Can anyone help me diagnose?
Thank you for any assistance.

Re: Turn Signal Indicator
sounds like turn signal switch assembly wear/failure
or flasher socket wires problem, loose wire/socket
good luck

Re: Turn Signal Indicator
The turn signals run off of resistance. They want to see X amount of voltage across the circuit, and if it doesn't, they operate funny. If one bulb is dim, definitely try replacing it. If it stays dim with the new bulb, then you might want to check for shorts, other burned out lights, anything.
Re: Turn Signal Indicator
Ok, so now that I have my car street legal I was driving down the road for a test, and my passenger side indicator started blinking normally. My driver's side still dosen't show up at all. Thinking...loose connection or burnt out bulb??

Re: Turn Signal Indicator
Check for a bad ground. Quickest check is to run a jumper wire to a good chassis ground & connect to the light socket. Test your signals & bet this will cure your gremlins.
