I removed the ECM ( empty bracket to the right) but then noticed there were plugs going into this box( left center silver box that looks like an ecu). it looks like a smaller ECM. looking thorough my repair manual i think it may be the electronic emissions control box but at this point im not sure. if any of you recognize this thing please let me know what it is.

 

I think that is airbag control unit.

 

For sure it isn't that because there is no such thing.

The little grey thing with the 6 wires in 2 rows is the power antenna relay, if that's what you're asking about.

the silver box that looks like the ecu is for the airbag? im changing the steering wheel to a trans am tribar. so that works out fine. appreciate the help guys. my repair manual wasn't much help on this one.

 

Is the connector yellow, if so than it's definitely SIR related.

A 1991 Firebird was just dropped in a Vegas junkyard, so I went to have a look at some things. And while I was looking throughout the interior, I saw that box and thought of this thread. I removed it and clicked a pic. A search of the part number confirms: Airbag Control Module.
