1986 hatch solder
hatch soldering to the brake light fell off window. high rise brake lights dont turn on.
cleaned the contact and tested for power. 12v on left ground on right. tested directly at the bulbs and they work. figured it has to be my wiring soldered onto the glass thats falling off, can i solder it back on? should i get a new hatch? tried twice at soldering but its in such an area and theres so many contacts that fell off its really annoying. any advice?

Re: 1986 hatch solder
i figured it out, i took the hatch off from the inside of the car while it was closed, fixed the soldering in the grass. harbor freights soldering gun blows. used real flux and soldering iorn. the flux is supposed to suck the solder in. after fixing the wiring soldered onto the glass it had continuity all the way through and still no power
took a look at the contact underneath the rubber t27 rubber toques that holdes the light on the glass. there was a bigger torques under that i ended up taking them off, i guess water got into the brake light and ruined the assembly.

Re: 1986 hatch solder
We had to restore my 1986 Iroc hatch as well! We removed the hatch and soldered the lines back on as well (ruining a cheap soldering gun as well). I bought some tape that will conduct electricity through them. We used those around the bolts that hold the third brake light on to complete those connections and has been working well a year later.
