Power hatch release problems!! help

ok heres the problem, my power hatch release wont work if the parking brake is not up, the switch makes the parking brake light come on when you press it but it doesnt pop the hatch, when the parking brake is on the hatch release works fine. any ideas as to what it could be? not a major problem but definitely annoying. i havent gotten a chance to get in there and see whats goin on yet, but i figured maybe some of you guys have had similar problems , or could give some help on what to look for.

thanks
Matt

On manual transmission cars, the hatch solenoid release will work all the time if the ignition switch is off. With the ignition swtich on, it will only work if the parking brake is pulled up, (as you are describing). On auto equipped cars, if the ingition is on, the gear selector must be in P or N (it is tied into the Neutral Safety switch). This is a safety feature so you won't pop the release while driving. I can send you a scan of the wiring diagram. I could tell you how to defeat the safety feature, but do you want to risk popping the hatch at 70 mph?

that's right..so is the car off or on when your trying to pop the hatch. if it is off then you have a wiring problem. start at that saftey circuit.
