Gas gauge registering slowly
Gas gauge registering slowly
Was just wondering if anyone else here has this problem? When I go to fill up my 91 Firebird,I can go about a mile I guess before my gas gauge shows full. I know its not really a big deal, but is this normal? It also gets on my nerves when the hand shows half a tank one minute and a few minutes later it shows a quarter of a tank
I have the same problem with the FORD van I have, If I leave the motor running when I fill up It won't register for a long time, if I turn the key off and then back on it registers immediatly, something about the way the senders are wired. I know its a different animal but just thought I'd mention it, for what its worth.
GAS GUAGE
THE GAS GUAGE ON MY 89 CAMARO IS ALSO STRANGE. ONE MINUTE IT READS HALF FULL AND AFTER A STOP OR TWO, IT READS ALMOST FULL. IT DEPENDS ON WHETHER I AM BRAKING OR ACCELERATING.
RATHER THAN PULL THE GAS TANK TO FIX IT, I CAN LIVE WITH IT

The gas guages on both cars suck because they don't work in a linear manner... ever notice the first half tank takes 200 miles to empty and the last half takes 100 miles or less...
Without redesigning the guage or circuitry or gastank there isn't anyway to fix this.

Drive home about 15 miles racing my brother twice to 125mph for a few seconds, get home with 105 miles on the trip odometer with gauge on empty.
My car must be very thirsty.
I'm with you Zepher, I am at the gas station every other day without fail. The my tank hasn't lasted me 100 miles ever. I'm still in the tuning stage though with this engine. I hope things improve.

I used 1/2 tank driving around today, 40 miles total.
I am running really rich though, need to set everything correctly.
I am still in the early stages of tuning.

I actually get pretty good gas mileage in the ol' bird. I still would rather have it so that when you fill the car up it don't take 1 to 2 miles before finally showing full. When I do have enough money to fill her to the brim, it just seems to take forever for it to move. Which is good in a way. Just at one point in the road it shows half a tank,5 minutes later I am at a quarter! Go figure

Thanks to all who replied! I am glad I am not the only one with a gas problem!
