Trunk Hatch Stuck Open?
Trunk Hatch Stuck Open?
I have a 91 RS Camaro Convertible. The other day, I was working on my car and I opened the trunk to get some tools. When I went to go close the trunk, maybe 30 mins later, the trunk locked into place but the electronic motor didn't lower down. In fact, it made no sound at all. There have been times in the past when this has happened, and all I had to do was unlock the trunk, press down in the center of the locking mechanism with a key, and it would lower itself and come back up. (kind of reseting it and then it would work when I tried to close it again) Now, I try and put my key (or finger) down into the latch, and it doesn't make a sound or move at all. Any ideas? (please be detailed!)
Thanks,
Brian

Start with the relay which is just below the pull-down unit. Pull it out and take it with you to the auto parts store for a replacement. I have the 3 most commonly needed parts to rebuild the hatch (or trunk) pull-down units. Motor housings (mine are new GM pieces that I specially reinforce with 4 pieces of alumimun and epoxy), Gear nuts, and my replacement nylon guide kits. All parts are for the 86-91 (first design) pull-down units. The gear nut also works for the 91-92 (second design) units. E-mail me if you need any of these items. Lon
