Engine stuttering while driving - electrical??

Just recently while driving home my car stuttered, 91 TBI. I unhooked my MSD A6, my radio/amps, but it still doing it.
When it happens, the voltmeter does not change(lights don't dim) but the tach jolts around +/- 150 RPMs. It does it at different speeds also, 1200 to 3000 RPMs. The engine only cuts out for about 0.5 to 1.0 second. I do know it is not a fuel issue.
I will check the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor this weekend, but does anyone have an idea on whats doing this.

Knock sensor, ignition, coil???

thanks

Could be a really lean engine condition but that would probably have noticable hesitation. I'm going to say it has something to do with your ignition (RPM tach wacky), most likely wires grounding or the rotor cap is misaligned and a little big of spark is getting to a wrong cylinder. It's unlikely the rotor is off center if you've got the stock dissy (rotor only goes on 1 way). Try adjusting base timing and then when it's REALLY dark out, look for blue sparks from any of the wires.

One of your spark plug wire is faulty or burned through.

this is more of a general thing that has nothing to do with your problem, but im pretty sure i've got the very same problem with my 92 RS. the people at the shop i took it to spent all day on it and they still don't know for sure what it is, unfortunately. but about that 92 beretta?? uh, as far as i thought they (chevy) didn't offer a base model in 92, or rather they only offered the RS and Z/28 which made the RS the "base" for that year i would imagine. just for my personal knowledge was a 92 beretta made?

rally sport, I think you are confused here. A beretta and a z28 are DIFFERENT cars. you must be thinking of a berlinetta. that was a camaro in 83 or 84 i think. they no longer make them. a base model camaro in 92 was the RS. they did make a 92 beretta too. either a base, or GT
