firebird hatch light and pulldown question?

I just purchased an 89 formula and i love it but the rear hatch pulldown moter and the hatch light dont work, here is my problem.

does anyone know where the fuse is located cause i dont see it in the fusebox.

im not getting any voltage at the hatch motor or the light so im thinking they run togather.

need to know so i can figure whats wrong with the hatchpulldown.when i put power on it.

just slamming it doesnt get it to close all the way and im not happy with the gap i get between the decklid and rear of car.

any help please!!!!

That was the only thing that didn't work on my GTA. What I did was to take the two screws off that hold the case around the eletric pull down motor and grab the coils and turn it until the latch is high enough to catch the hatch. The you just close it by hand and it latches. I don't miss the pull down thing at all. My problem was a sensor is messed up and it would pull the latch down to far and it won't hook. had to drive 60 miles IN THE RAIN with it bounceing up and open every time I hit a bump.

You have to turn it forever because it is geared low. Turn 20 times and close then stick key in open and turn some more. it need to compress the rubber or it will leak...

The fuse that powers the pull-down unit is labeled "LID". Once you have the electrical corrected you will be able to diagnose the mechanical function of the unit. Common failures are stripped gear nuts, broken guides and broken motor housings. I stock all 3 items. The guides are what the latch assy travels up and down on. The OEM ones are injection molded with the minimum amount of material possible. They break into many pieces with age. The motor housing is made of plastic. It mounts the motor to the frame of the pull-down assy. These fail where the 3 screws attach it to the frame. The slamming of the hatch hastens the failure because the motor housing is subjected to the shock. I reinforce new GM motor housings with 4 pieces of aluminum and
epoxy in the area they break. E-mail me if you need any of these items. Good luck, Lon.

I have an '89 Trans-Am that I just bought from someone. The hatch motor is not working on it and I looked to see if there was a place for LID in the fuse box. I did not find anything and I am wondering if it would be under something else? The guy did not have a key to open the doors. I was also wondering what color the wires are coming from the motor? Any help will be appreciated.

Re: firebird hatch light and pulldown question?

My 86 Firebird does not have any power to the hatch pull down. I looked under at the fuse box and see a plug dangling loose with a red/white striped wire attached. I think this is the power supply but I don't know where this should be plugged in to or connected to.
