Checking Relays

Does anyone know how to check relays to see if they still function right? I have one in question and have tested the continuity on every combination of spades with the relay both "open" and "closed" and the results made sense but it doesn't work (at least that is what I'm coming to). Is there a sure fire method to check them out? My searches have been fruitless.

First of all, which relay(s) is in question? I check relays a similar way. I energize the relay by connecting it to a 12v power supply (make sure you're connecting the right prongs) and test the resistance across it, both when its energized and not. If the relay checks out by this method, its fine. You should take your DMM and check the electrical connections to the relay as well, and make sure there's 12 v going to the relay when its suppose to be on, and make sure there is continuity in the switched circuit as well.

Thanks for the help. Also, it isn't a relay out of a third gen, I just figured I'd ask because it applies to any relay.
