adding fog lights?
I really love the look that thirdgens have with fog lights, and I was wondering how difficult it is to wire them in on a car that didn't originally have em.
Easy. Most kits come with all necessary wiring, relays and switches. Lights ground to frame thru the mounting bolt. 12+ in to light and out to relay. Relay has 4 prongs. 1 for relay 12+ in from constant source (this wire has a fuse to protect foglights) or hot hi/lo factory light wire if you only want them on when lights are on. 2x12+ wires to the foglights (see above). Last 1, Relay has ground to switch. Switch has 2 prongs. Ground to relay and switch ground to frame. If switch has 3 prongs it is a lighted switch has red 12+ to ignition hot to light up the switch. Good Luck!!

Trust me use the wiring kits that have the relays. They're way better (i have one but its not installed yet). The non-relay kind may be easier to hook up, but they like to melt switches even when properly installed.

I wanted to install the factory wiring out of a junkyard car, but I don't know if I can do it without having to cut up wires from my harness. I would really hate to have to start splicing wires in my car, only because I hate making permanent mods. I like to be able to put things back exactly how they were just in case. Has any one hear done this?
92blue,
There's always the possibility that your car is pre-wired anyway.
My '92 Formula came with no power trunk or fog lights. I got a switch panel that has fog and trunk switches in it.... and the plugs were already there in the car. And I needed to plug in a relay under the dash, and now I have trunk pop!
I'm not sure where the rest of the fog light wiring is...... there must be a relay somewhere, and I didn't check any plugs laying behind the front bumper, but I suspect they might be there................... it's just simpler for the factory to make things the same way.
------------------------------------
In the event you can't do that with your car, here are some of the ways to make the installation as inobtrusive as you can:
If possible, obtain a factory fog light switch from the junkyard or dealer. Don't forget to cut the plug and some of the wire out of the donor car.
If you're going to drill a hole and install an aftermarket switch, do so on a part of the car that is easily replaceable. Find a small panel on the dash that unscrews easily and drill through THAT, not the main dashboard itself........ when you want to revert to stock, you can simply replace that small piece.
When mounting the lights to the car, try to do so the same way the factory did.... or just get factory lights at the junkyard.............. or even if the lights on the car at the junkyard are ruined or missing, you can study the factory's mounting method.
When you use one of those wiring kits, there should be minimum splicing into the factory harness........and I say splicing, not cutting! You find the desired factory wire you need to tap into, take off some insulation with wire strippers or utility knife...... push a nail or screw into the factory wire so it spreads apart........... poke your aftermarket wire through the hole, wrap it around, solder, tape, then a zip tie around it for security.................... you can tap into the factory wires without cutting them up.

I just put a set on my '91 RS and it was very easy. First of all, use a relay. You don't HAVE to get an install kit. Just get a relay, some 12 and 14-16 gauge wire, and ana ssortment of wiring terminals and splices.I got my Bosch type relay and wire at Radio Shack. I put a link to a great wiring diagram below, it should answer all your questions.
Also, I used a factory fog light switch and it looks great. This switch has 4 terminals on it, 2 for the switch and 2 for the lighted part. Use a multimeter to sound out which is which. I wired it up to the panel light/dash light terminal in the fuse box so, 1)They're only on when the parking lights or headlights are on, and 2) the factory switch lights up along with the dash lights. When they're wired like this they're also on when your high beams are on. I am amazed at the difference in lighting.
