Window motor problem????

I have electric windows in my 92 Camaro RS 5.0. About two months ago it started to act up. Sometimes it will work fine then suddenly stops working mid action. If I wait 20 or so seconds it will move another inch then wait another 20 or so and get another etc... Sometimes it will just start working again. Does not seem to be related to whether the car is moving or not. Does this sound like the window motor is almost history??

Thanks in advance
Pete

Can you say bye-bye.

my moms car (grand-am) did the exact same thing, replaced both front motors with units from NAPA (about $55.00 ea.) and no more probs.

it sounds like the brushes in your window motor are worn to the point that they no longer make good contact with commutator.

the cycle of windows move for a bit, then stop, but work again after a couple minutes is due to the thermal cutoff switch inside the motor.

either rebuild your current motor or replace with a new one to fix the problem.

It's possible that the window itself is binding and requires readjustment. The bind could cause overheating, which would explain why the thermal is cutting the motor. At any rate, experiment before you plunk down the long green. One way or another, when you've jerked the door panel, clean and lube (white grease) the power locks and window tracks.
