Attaching Tach to MSD distributor...
I have the Pro-Billet Ready-To-Run distributor with the external coil, PN 8360. I was wondering how exactly the tach is hooked up? I take it I take off the tach filter and attach the wire to the coil? It doesn't mention anything in the instructions or on any diagram so I'm kind of at a loss here... Someone enlighten me please
Thanks a lot,
Inwo

8360 sounds like an MSD part number - if the distributor is a capacitive discharge type ign system, the tach may not be conneted to the coil - it must be connected to the tach output of teh ign system, if the unit has one. If the ign system is a standard factory electronic or breaker (switched system voltage; 13 volts) type, then the tach may be connected to the negative (switched) side of the coil. I'd leave the tach filter in place & try that first, before removing it.

Sounds good I'll give it a try, just hook it to the negative side eh... It's an MSD Pro Billet non-electronic so I'm guessing it doesn't have the capacitive discharge ign system.
Also do you happen to know the gauge on the wire going to the tach? I don't have the car available til tomorrow and I wanted to pick up some extra wire on the way to make an extension as my coil isn't mounted right next to my distributor.

The gauge of the wire feeding the tach is not critical, 18 ga to 22 ga would work just fine. I'd use stranded wire over solid wire, though, so that it will not fatigue & break with vibration & flex.
