3500rpm in 5th

i have an 86 camaro with the 305 and the rochester quadrajet. when i drive it on the highway, i can only get it to 3500 rpm in 5th. so i figured it was the engine. so i go out and buy a 350 with aluminum heads and 9.5 compression. will i be able to rev higher than 3500 in 5th or do i have to change more?

Fuel

I also did a motor swap, same engine and all. The stock carb is GARBAGE. Need a new one. I just put on a TPI system cuz I am sick of carbs.

so does mine....86 iroc-z 305 tpi....so it's not a carb thing. when i have it in OD i can only get 160 km/h. So about 100 mph for you non canadians . I was thinking about it...I'm not very smart when i comes to these things...but i was thinking a speed limiter. I have no idea if there is one on an iroc-z. In my opinion...it sucks if there is one. I mean "international race of champions" edition z-28 As lond as you don't drive any faster than 100mph?
way to go GM

sombody told me that there is a vss on the back of the tranny and if you un hook that you will be able to go faster...the only set back is that your speedo won't work. Apperantly it shuts the fuel off at 108mph. He also said that you can hook an on off switch in through the positive line comming from the vss and turn it off when you want to drive faster....turn it back on when your done.
the only probleme is that doing this will triger your check engin light.

there is a limiter on stock ones, to solve that get a new chip, or in my case burn one till you get what you want. I'm not sure what to tell the carb owners.

I used to have an old sL uG4 '87 Formula. I got up to about 3500 rpm in 5th and i was going around 125 so i wouldn't be too worried about it. Most LG4 cars top out around there.

I have a 305 TBi 90 RS 5 speed mine tops out at 112 or 115 i really cant tell b/c of my 110 mph speedo. but will that little mod fix the problem of the motor cutting the fuel supply? When it stops im doing about 3000 rpm in 5th.

there is a speed limiter on these cars...i know this because mine screwed up. not sure about the firebirds but i know in the camaros you can cut the wire with no problems if the car was made before 90 or 91....thats when they changed to the electronic dash. dont take anything out from the tranny, just go underneath the dash on the pass side, find the wire (forget what color it is) and snip it. only problems ive run into is that itll spit a code 24 at me when i decelerate...but that only happens when i decelerate and the engine is above a certain rpm. keep in mind mine is a stick, and it might have something to do with the shifting on the auto.
the one thing i dont get though is how it could cut the fuel on the carbed cars...it may cut the primary fuel by closing the solenoid, but how could it cut it to the secondaries that dont use any electronic control?

Can you see if you can get the color of that wire i wanna get my car to GO. I think that the computer or the ingnition just drops a few cylinders so that you cant accelerate anymore, i dont think that it cuts the fuel. my boss has a 2002 BMW M3 Coupe kinda like the Z3 but with a hard top its an inline 6 with a 6-speed goes from 0-60 in 4.3 sec but anyways his drops 3 cylinders when he gets to 155. so the camaros stystem may be kinda like the one's on ours.

i just went out and looked at what wire i cut. its a brown wire that goes into pin 10 of connector A to the ecm...im not sure if thats what everyone calls it, so heres another way to describe it. it is pin 10 (third from the side) of the frontmost leftmost connector to the ECM...just remember though...i drive a 89 rs stick, im not sure what itll do to an auto.
one more thing...cut the wire at a spot where it would be easy to splice back together in case its the wrong one or it starts doind strange things
