A/C and rough idle
I'm not really sure where to post this so if this is the wrong place for it, sorry.
I was having a problem running the A/C at anything below 1500rpm. Anything lower or at idle (1000rpm), it seriously loaded down the engine and almost looked like it was about to throw the belt. I have since tightened the belt but if I run the A/C under 1500 rpm it loads the engine down and eventually kills the car. I am assuming this is due to the cam I have in it which makes for a rough idle. Is there something I can wire to turn off the A/C under 1500 rpm, because I really don't want to reach over and turn it off every time I get to a light, or is there some other way around this?

if you haven't already, hook up a set of manifold guages to the a/c system. is a good chance that you need to add some refrigerant. even in the most tightly sealed mobile a/c systems, some refrigerant loss is going to occur over the years.
if you're still using r12, you have to be licensed to purchase additional refrigerant. do not attempt to top off an r12 system with r134a as the two refrigerants are incompatible.

I have already gone out and bought a "new" A/C compressor thinking the clutch was bad on the one in the car. I still have R12 and thought about switching over when I put the new compressor on though if I get things working I may just take that compressor back. I just haven't flushed the car yet because I'm lazy.
But you are saying that I would have this problem if the system was low on refridgerant?
