Why did you go V-Belt instead? any advantage between the two?

Re: serpentine belt set-up

no not really, but i'm using a 400 sbc with a blower and the serpentine belt lined-up in the way of the blower belt, so I wasn't able to use it, the only way was to go v-belt.

Re: serpentine belt set-up

Well, i'm picking up a motor from Daz, it has the serpentine pulley on it. since the only accessory i have is the PSpump at the moment, would it be easier to get a serpentine setup and get a serpentine pump? or go V-Belt and get a new pulley and keep the pump? since i don't want to have AC or a smog pump or anything i only need to turn the water pump, alternator and PSpump. are V-Belt accessories more abundant? i dunno. which way would you go?

Re: serpentine belt set-up

if the only items you're using is alt, waterpump and p/s pump I'd go v-belt. Serpentine brackets take up more room and then you're going to have to find and a/c & smog pump delete pulleys.

I still have the set-up, but I'm sorry the waterpump stays with the engine. And I have a few guys interested in the engine...

Re: serpentine belt set-up

Hey,

I'm looking to put an ATI Procharger suprecharger on my 86 IROC with the V-Belt system. Unfortunately, it is not compatible iwth the V-Belt system so I need to convert to Serpentine system.

I have an 86 IROC-Z 305TPI Auto 700R4. I will need A/C and smog pump delete pullies, this I am aware of.

My question to you is this: Is this set-up complete from A to Z if I were to purchase this from you? Or would I need to purchase other things like bolts, brackets, water pump, etc... And can I use my current aluminum water pump with this system?

Thanks!
-Marc

Re: serpentine belt set-up

I'm waiting for a responce from 85monteZZ4 if he doesn't come through you're next in line...The system is complete from A to Z, (exceptions: no waterpump, no power steering pump) pulleys yes and of course everything mentioned up top.. Your waterpump will not fit because on v-belt systems the waterpump is forward rotation and on serpentine systems you need a reverse rotation waterpump..the engine blocks are the same so you'll need a 89 firebird 305/5.0L with engine vin code E waterpump. They ask you engine code at the parts house, even though it doesn't matter, 5.0L & 5.7L are both still SBC's..(small block chevy)your power steering pump will work, all you have to do is press the pulley on... I'll let you know what goes down with my first client...
