Comp Cams 292XFI
Long story short, bought this cam for my new motor. Took it to the dyno, and with my setup (E85), my tuner said it would be better and more drivable on the street if I get something smaller. It's in the car. You can hear it run. Still have the box and paperwork. Probably doesn't have 20 miles on it. Hydraulic Roller Tappet. Pretty big. Set up for blocks originally equipped with factory roller lifters (ie 87 and later). It would work on earlier blocks with a cam button also. 8-468-8 is the part number.

I paid a little $310 from JR Motorsports for it, but it's cheaper on Summit:

$225

Re: Comp Cams 292XFI
No. It's one of the biggest hydraulic roller in the XFI line. As the cam card states on the link, your motor needs full mods to take advantage. The stock TPI will never be happy with this cam.

Lol, yeah. You could try it if you wanted to, but I wouldn't recommend it. It'll fit, but you'll have to upgrade your springs and converter

Re: Comp Cams 292XFI
If you had a stronger bottom end, and some decent heads, this cam would probably suit a miniram and stick shift or 3500+ RPM stall well. Supercharged and a little lower compression, and you'd have yourself a decent race engine!

Re: Comp Cams 292XFI
With a good top end like that, you'd be flowing enough air to make this cam worthwhile and would actually be a pretty decent fit. Throw some pistons in it and call it a day. 10s would be pretty attainable at that point. Just need to make sure you have heads set up to handle .600 of lift.

Re: Comp Cams 292XFI
The cam is designed for an engine around 383+ci with a 200+cc head with 10.5:1 or better CR.
I bet if you put this cam in a stock motor it would make less power than it does with the stock cam. haha

Re: Comp Cams 292XFI
Depends on your compression, Intake setup, displacement, etc. Dart Pro1s are a good all around cylinder head that can be bought decently cheap. Iron Eagles are ok if you're on a budget. I'd probably say anything with some larger valves in them.

Still got this. Hear it run soon before I pull it out.
Re: Comp Cams 292XFI
Thats bigger then what I have in my 383 with a HSR and Dart Pro 1 Heads I'm undercammed with 450HP 465TQ Whoever drops that bad boy in will have a good 500+ HP with a set up like mine. I don't have Hyd Rollers or I would jump on it.

I still have the cam for sale and in the car at the moment guys. You can hear it run before it gets taken out. I would also trade for a 280-268 XFI cam as well. Make me an offer if you're interested.

I have the XR294 in my car......you definitely need stall, heads and an upper intake that breathes.
But these things sound absolutely amazing!!......and yep, I still drive my car on the street. The car did have to be tuned.
Free bump.....

On pump gas at 11.8:1? That's pretty impressive.

Re: Comp Cams 292XFI
Yep, crazy huh? These cams have alot of overlap, which allows cylinder pressure to bleed off, so you can run high compression and still drive it on the street. But, I do it with aluminum heads, electric water pump, and dual fans running the whole time. Less heat = less detonation.
The tune is probably the most important......the idle can be kinda tricky.

Re: Comp Cams 292XFI
I'm running 11.5/1 on E85. Tuning was a nightmare and evidently pretty tough to get driveability in the low throttle values.

I do! Was going to order a 280 this next week. If you're interested in swapping out, let me know.

Re: Comp Cams 292XFI
I have not. Car is torn apart for paint and sound deadening at the moment, so swapping the cam is on the back burner till that is done.
My 292 is still available to anybody that wants it. There seems to be some interest every once in a while, but every time I respond, that's when the interest stops. I'd love to just find someone that wants to swap for a 280XFI. IDK, we'll see.

I want a 280 XFI. I'd trade straight across.
Otherwise, I'll take $225 + shipping. It's got about 500 miles on it.
