Theoretical - What should I ask for my 9-bolt?

Giving some thought to possibly upgrading from my 9-bolt to a MW 9" with a quick-change. But if I do, I'll more than likely sell the differential that I have now so that I can make up part of the cost. Here's the info:
  • Borg-Warner Aussie 9-bolt;
  • Positraction;
  • 3:27:1 gearset;
  • TA Performance differential cover (with bearing supports);
  • Redline gear oil with GM friction modifier added;

I've also sandblasted it & painted it with a POR-15 equivalent paint (flat black), so it looks halfway decent.

I'm guessing that I'll need to (want to?) keep the disc-brake backing plates & other brake parts to transfer over to the new rearend (right?), so none of that would be included.

BTW, given the thing's weight, I really do NOT want to try to ship it, I'm hoping that I'll be able to sell it locally.

Thanks for reading guys, please let me know what you think.

Isn't it illegal to ship it full of fluid? Wouldn't that be considered transporting Hazmat? If you ship it.

Whats shape are the posi cones in? If the rear posi works and is in good shape, maybe $350-$450. I'm not sure you can swap the brake parts on a different rear. There isn't too big of a demand for a 9 bolt rear any more, maybe you would get more parting it out?

Veaceonee - I don't plan on shipping it, so that's a non-factor.

red rock - Thanks for the reply. The last time that I drove the car, everything related to the rear end was in GREAT shape, the only reason for the Red Line gear oil was because I swapped the differential cover for the TA Performance unit. If I need to, I'm completely comfortable using the 9-bolt for another 50,000 miles or so (the car had only about 89,000 miles when I parked it).

And I'm not entirely sure about swapping the brake parts, but I seem to recall reading fairly frequently about people doing that... If it's necessary to swap to new brakes on the rear when upgrading, then how would you know that the stock prop valve would work with the new parts?? (Actually, that's a question that I already have, since I've swapped to 13" Baer brakes on the front, so I'll probably need to re-do the prop valve anyway...)

I don't know, but if your willing to keep the 9 bolt, you could rebuild the carrier and run a 3.70 gear. The 9 bolt is a pretty strong rear. I have built and rebuilt a couple and bought new posi cones from http://9bolt.com/
