400 short block
I am looking for a virgin 400 SBC in a car or however. I know they are getting hard to find but if you are asking the moon for it you can keep it.
Cash in hand ready to buy. Let me know.

Re: 400 short block
I have a virgin bore two bolt main with no ridge. Talk about rare. I have a set of JE forged pistons for the standard bore. But....there is a reason for the "virginess" (if there is such a word). This motor let loose early and the bottom of one of the bores got a small chunk taken out. It didn't matter to me because I build short stroke motors but if your building a 400, I might be concerned...maybe. If you would like pictures, PM me your e-mail address and be a little patient. I have it moth balled in the far reaches of my garage and I need a little time to pull it out. I would only sell it with the JE pistons. They have a 1.125 compression height. The combination would be a 3.75" stroke with a 6" rod or my combination....a 3.25" stroke with a 6.25" rod. Good news is the ring package does not extend into the pin bore. Really great piston design. Ring package is thin ring LS1 style. $700 plus shipping. Considering the pistons are $600 themselves, it's a steal. Block has been magged. If you need, I have a new Scat 9000 3.75" crank and Crower Sportsman 6" rods with clearanced bolts as well or....a standard steel Corvette 3.25" stroke crank and new Eagle 6.25" 4340 steel rods.
I got a hold of some good LS1 drugs and now I need to raise money to mainline more LS1 parts. I need help bad!!!

Re: 400 short block
Any high performance parts excluding intake. I'm running a carb on my built 5.3 and just haven't quite embrassed the EFI LS1 intake as of yet. It's coming but I'm too busy at the moment to sort out the learning curve. I would really like to round up a rebuildable LS1 shortblock with accessories.

Re: 400 short block
We should do some trading. I could use the heads. I got a great Patriot grind that would be a great combination.
I have a 4 bolt virgin block as well as the two bolt but it's going to need to go .030. It's a better candidate for a 3.75" stroke because of the damage to the bottom of the two bolt bore described earlier. I don't know what your plans are for a 400....if the SCAT crank would be strong enough. The 9000 series is a cast steel and advertised as good to 500 horsepower. Of course the Crower Sportsman rods are good to over 500 hp. I've read about the negative attributes of a four bolt main 400 but I've run the snot out of several of them. I just use main studs instead of bolts and never had a problem. Shipping a block to Indiana might be problematic but I'm open to suggestions. Tell me what you think a fair trade scenario looks like.

Re: 400 short block
I have never heard anything good about a 4 bolt 400 block. A lot of that is hearsay and things I have read.
I am shooting for around 550-570 on the motor I am building. I know a lot of people have went stupid fast on factory parts.
I have a balanced rotating assembly now. Stock crank, 5.7 rods w/ ARP bolts and KB pistons w/ 17cc dish.
I can make you a good deal on the heads. I know you have been a member on here for a long time and have helped me out in the past. The only not so great things about the heads is they have comp 977 springs. I would suggest something better like a PAC spring for a aggresive cam. If you are interested in the heads shoot me a PM and we can talk about it. There is "suppose" to be a guy locally with a stock 2 bolt block. I will let you know how that works out. I am needing a block I can use a 3.75 stroke on.

Re: 400 short block
I saw pics of the heads on LS1 Tech. They are sweet. I'll have to check the pocket book after the holiday. I'm unloading a garage full of items to raise some cash and to make room for more.

Re: 400 short block
I have a virgin bore 400 2 bolt block. Its the high nickel block. I forget the last 3 of the casting. Anyway I had it hot tanked and pressure checked and it is deemed a good useable block. I had new cam bearings and freeze plugs installed while it was in the machine shop. It has minor surface rust from sitting...nothing that cant be taken out with a quick hone, then you're ready to go! I'm looking for $400 plus half the shipping cost which should be about $75 from VA.
