Re: need a 2 series 10 bolt posi unit

according to summit the automatic f-bodys came with your 26 spline and the manuals came with the 28, I'm not 100% on that. do you know??
what was the original gear ratio on this diff?? any pics?
If it's what I'm lookin for, how much would you want for it? i PROBABLY could find one in a local junk yard for a good price, but there arent many around here at all, and I'm kinda impatient lol.

It is a series 2 26 spline w/2.73 gears. Do you have drums? The best I can tell is the Series relate to merely weather the carrier was designed for a tall (2.73) or short (4.10) the ring gear boss is thicker for short and visa versa. Not sure on the auto/ man theory but a do know that the 28 general dimensions are not the same, so don't plan on using other parts. I think by the time you covered shipping you be ahead to go to a yard. Keep me posted on any learning curves.

Re: need a 2 series 10 bolt posi unit

that seems to be on point with the information i found. I'll look at my set of richmond gears and confirm for sure that they are a 3.73 gear made for a 2 series carrier (Im 90% sure they are), and if so, would you take 100 dollars shipped for the unit? I've seen a few on here for for that in the past, but wasnt completely sure if i'd be keeping my current rear or just buying one with disk brakes and using the unit that would be in there already.

for now, yes, i have drums. I think I'll be fine to keep them for the time being, since I dont wanna spend the money and go through the trouble of changing all the brake hardware right now. I've got performance parts to buy :-) Also, a cool note, while the flange on the rear end housing is different between the rear brake options, so they arent interchangeable, I did find some brackets available online that bolt to the housing that would allow for a brake conversion, including options for installing LT1, LS1 or C5 brake hardware, and they were pretty cheap (under 100 dollars). So, point being, I'll build my drum rear for now and in the future when I'm bored and have a little pocket money, I'll upgrade the brakes then.

Manual cars did come w/ different gears, but I don't know if the splines were different for the same year. They changed to 28 spline in '89.

Hey, sorry to lead ya on with the carrier stuff but it seems my contact was alittle off on his stock in the yard. Thanks for the FYI on the adapters and good luck in your search. I think Im actually going to use my carrier adapt the brakes and buy the gear set. Larry
